It takes about 15 minutes from Kongsberg to get to the property on a national road (rv 40) by the river through the Numedal valley. It is the perfect spot from which to explore nearby river, forests, green mountains and historical buildings. Svene Gjestegård is sheltered between lush, green mountain in walking distance to Lågen river and Grettefoss Falls.

In our hotel you can do absolutely nothing except, relax and enjoy the peace of the surroundings and explore the Numedal valley. The area is well known for ancient timber buildings and stave churches together with excellent fishing, paddling and wildlife watching.

Numedal valley has long been the location of the Norwegian paths (Nordmannsslepene) which were the main traffic artery between Østlandet (Eastern) and Vestlandet (Western Norway). The path is marked, and when one treks along the old way, one sees the remains of Stone Age dwelling places, bog iron works, grave mounds and many more signs of activity over a period of 8000 years. The area along the Numedalslågen river from Kongsberg up to the Hardangervidda through the valley had the highest concentration of medieval log buildings.
